1951
Just a few years after returning from World War II, John Gorsegner Sr. began working on hardwood flooring jobs alongside his brother-in-law in Red Bank. In 1951, he took a leap of faith and launched John Gorsegner Hardwood Floors, landing a massive project installing and finishing floors in 668 homes at Hamilton Gardens in Neptune. 1970s
As the business grew, John Sr.’s sons John Jr. and Fred stepped into the trade they had been learning since childhood. After years of working alongside their father, the brothers took on larger roles in the company and helped expand its reputation across New Jersey. In 1982, the company officially became Gorsegner Brothers Hardwood Floors, marking the beginning of the second generation of family leadership.
1990s
Just like the generation before him, Dan Gorsegner grew up learning the family trade. By age 12 he was accompanying his father to job sites, and by high school he was helping sweep, vacuum, and carry equipment — back in the days before dustless sanding. While attending West Chester University, Dan even began taking on flooring jobs of his own around campus, saving up for equipment and building his experience in the trade that had already shaped two generations of his family.
2000s
After graduating from college, it didn’t take long for Dan to realize that his passion was in the family business.In the early 2000s, Dan joined his father and uncle full-time, continuing to build on the craftsmanship, reputation and customer relationships that Gorsegner Brothers had spent decades earning across New Jersey.
Today
Between 2012 and 2015, John and Fred retired and officially passed the Gorsegner Brothers torch to Dan. Today the company continues to grow while staying true to the values that started it all. With multiple sanding and installation crews, a dedicated delivery team, and an experienced office staff, Gorsegner Brothers now offers hardwood flooring, stairs, railings, trim work, bathroom and kitchen remodels, tile installation and painting — all built on more than 75 years of craftsmanship, trust and family pride.
